Once you reach Vancouver Island you can drive to Bamfield or Port Alberni from either Victoria or Nanaimo.
From Victoria, head north on the main highway (#1). You will pass through Duncan and Ladysmith before entering Nanaimo.
From Nanaimo, head north on the island highway and take the exit to Port Alberni (Highway #4). When you first enter Port Alberni there will be a left-hand exit to Bamfield. The signs will direct you through a suburban area for about 10km. You will then come to a gravel road. 82km down that gravel road is Bamfield. The road is well maintained and is usually in good shape. Make sure that you have a spare tire and enough gas. Travel time from Nanaimo to Bamfield is about 3 hours. Be aware of active logging trucks.
